Become a Reviewer

Do you love to read?  Were you the only kid in class who didn’t mind writing book reports?  Do you want to spread your love of the written word to everyone who will listen?  Consider becoming a reviewer.  We’re looking for a few good women (and men, we don’t discriminate) who are willing to read a book then tell the world what they think of it.  Interested yet?  Before you make up your mind, here are some things you should know:

#1 – We DO NOT get paid to write reviews.  We do this because we love to read, and want to share our opinions with other readers.  We do get to keep the book we review for free, though, so there is some compensation.

#2 – All reviews must be fair and honest, but not mean.  Sometimes you’ll like the book, other times you won’t, and either way is fine.  The goal is to be the impartial third party, telling it like it is.  That love scene didn’t work for you?  Explain why.  Was that the best book you’ve ever read?  Explain why.  Remember that the authors DO read these reviews, and the goal here is not to make them cry because you were overly mean.

#3 – If you request a book, you MUST read and review it.  Unless there is a part of the book that morally offends you, all books must be read and reviewed.  You will have three weeks to read and review the book.  If for some reason you CANNOT finish in that timeframe, email us immediately.  Failure to do so will result in you getting dropped from our reviewer list.  Sounds harsh, you say?  Consider our angle.  Publishers give us X amount of time to finish and post a review.  If we don’t post the reviews within the set timeframe, they will drop us from their list.  Getting dropped will mean other publishers will be leery about letting us read their books.  No books means we don’t have a review site anymore.  Long story short, our reputation is everything, please help us keep it in good standing.

#4 – About 99% of our books are in ebook format, so if you don’t have an ereader, consider how much time you’re willing to spend in front of your computer reading.

Have we scared you off yet?  No?  Awesome.  A few more things you’ll need to know before you make your final decision may help.

#5 – We ask that you do a minimum of THREE reviews each month.  We get a staggering number of review requests, and this will help ensure we have lots of new and fresh content to add to the site.

#6 – For your first FIVE reviews, you will be allowed one book at a time, and they will all be in ebook format.  After you’ve successfully completed your first five reviews, we’ll let you take more at a time, and will even offer print books (for the rare occasion we get them).  Consider it an on-the-job interview.

Still sound like something you’d like to try?  Excellent.  And don’t worry.  There’s no contract to sign.  Just give it a try, and if it’s not to your liking, then quit.  Simple as that.  We do ask that you not review for other sites at the same time you’re with us.  Gets confusing.

If you’ve made up your mind to give it a try, then congratulations and welcome.  Annette oversees the reviewers, so please email her at annette@romfanreviews.com, and she’ll get you all set up.  Good luck!

If we all add our two cents, then soon we shall all be rich!
