This a continuation of the world where the Echelon (aristocratic vampires) rule with an iron fist, and the rest of humanity who try not to attract attention to themselves.  This can be read as a stand alone novel.  I love the world Bec McMaster’s created, full of danger, passion, mystery, and automatons.  Lynch is a delicious enigma, and we’re teased by him throughout the book as he makes himself known to us.  Rosalind is doing the best she can, trying to carry on her dead husband’s legacy.  In the end, she’s just trying to keep what’s left of her family together, and is willing to go to any lengths to make that happen.  The two collide in a whirlwind in a passion so bright it lights up the pages.  This is one of my favorite steampunk series, and I’m anxiously awaiting the (hopefully) next installment of the series.
